Mayor Claudia López assured that, despite a strong outbreak expected for December, citizen behavior and strategies have served to keep the pandemic under control. Projections show that the second wave will be in 2021.

Much expectation has generated the arrival of the second peak of COVID-19 infections in Bogotá. Although in October the mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López, assured that this would arrive at the end of November and the beginning of December, today the projections show another panorama: the new wave of infections will be postponed until 2021.

This was confirmed by the president herself on Tuesday, who assured: “it is not estimated for this year. We hope that, with all the open-air Christmas measures, open-air Bogotá and epidemiological surveillance we can continue to have an adequate management of the pandemic without major shocks, ”said the president.

According to López, that the second peak does not arrive this year, as planned, is an achievement for the city: “It is without a doubt one of the great achievements. Bogotá is a dense city of eight million people, with popular areas where it is not easy to maintain protocols. But with the help of everyone, citizens, merchants, neighborhood leaders and local mayors, we have managed to keep the pandemic under control ”, he explained.

The mayor stressed that with the opening that the city had since the end of August, society and the economy have been reactivated positively. “Three months. We have spent three months of social, family, political, economic and now Christmas life, without us having surprises in the management of the pandemic and we hope that it will continue like this for the rest of the year ”.

Finally, the president assured that she would dictate a new package of measures when necessary, but that, for now, the city is on the right track regarding the management of the pandemic.
