The Office of the Attorney General of the Nation and the National Registry jointly carried out a judicial inspection on Friday at the offices of the Special and Auxiliary Registry of Soledad, in Atlántico.

The inspection was carried out in order to advance the investigations into anomalies detected in internal audits on alleged irregular registrations in the civil registry of birth and the alleged identification of foreign migrants.

In the diligence, which was announced in Barranquilla by the Attorney General, Francisco Barbosa, and the National Registrar, Alexander Verga, a specialized team from the CTI of the Prosecutor’s Office compiled documents, videos, interviews and other elements of evidence with the purpose of identifying the perpetrators of these acts of corruption that, according to the accusing entity, would have been carried out systematically.

“The officials who would be linked to these irregular activities could face disciplinary and criminal liability procedures,” the Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.

And he adds: “apparently, they would be committing crimes against the public faith, for the presumed issuance of identity documents and citizenship cards to foreign citizens who are in national territory and who intend to participate in electoral contests in the country“.

The national registrar, Alexander Vega, said the special registrars were declared unsubsidized and announced the suspension of care at this headquarters while the authorities advance with the investigations.

This inspection takes place after the journal The Herald recently revealed the testimony of a person about how, from the archives of the Soledad Registry Office, migrants are located “a Colombian parent”, according to their surnames, so that they can obtain the identity card or civil registry that allows them to access Colombian nationality .
