The soldiers accused of sexually abusing a minor on June 22 broke their silence and accused their superiors of forcing them to lie
On June 22, seven soldiers raped an Emberá Chamí indigenous minor at a school in the municipality of Puerto Rico, Risaralda. The young men – between the ages of 18 and 20 – who were about to complete their year of military service kidnapped the minor from school. After a day of holding the child, they let her go alive but with emotional and physical consequences that will never heal.
Four months after the violation that outraged him, hearings are held for the soldiers identified as Juan Camilo Morales Poveda, Yair Stiven González, José Luis Holguín Pérez, Juan David Guaidía Ruiz, Óscar Eduardo Gil Alzate, Deyson Andrés Isaza Zapata and Luis Fernando Mangaret Hernández
However, the young men confessed that they lied to the Prosecutor’s Office following orders from their superior, the vice-first sergeant, Juan Carlos Díaz. According to one of those implicating, when they learned of the sexual abuse at their base, they were ordered to declare that they had been camping for 10 days at the site where they kidnapped the minor so as not to raise suspicions. They also told them that they will line up and collect everything.
