In videos it was recorded how ‘the gold rush’ upset an entire community in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
As reported by the agency ‘Reuters’, last Wednesday, February 10, the authorities prohibited the extraction of the mineral on a hill from Luhihi village, located in the eastern province of South Kivu.

The shocking discovery was made by the villagers at the end of February this year. As reported by the outlet, there was no order between the people and a ‘gold rush’ was unleashed.

Images of the crowd digging went viral on social media in early March.
According to ‘Reuters’, the Minister of Mines of South Kivu, Venant Burume Muhigirwa, specified by means of a decree that “miners, merchants and members of the armed forces of the Congo they had to leave the mining locations in and around Luhihi ”.
Furthermore, all exploitation activities were suspended until further notice.
