For a long time, fear became the main tool of the Nicolás Maduro regime to stay in power. The fear of being imprisoned, of being left without a job or without any of the insufficient state aid to eat, leads many people to remain silent in the face of the abuses they suffer from day to day.
But Fortunato Albarán, a resident of the Pedraza municipality, in the state of Barinas, decided to lose his fear. At 103 years old, he feels that they can no longer hurt him. So this Tuesday he took to the streets to try to convince other people not to vote this Sunday in the legislative elections promoted by the regime to remove the opposition from the National Assembly and fill it with followers. Delivery note pleaded not to validate a farce that does not have opposition participation or international recognition.
It is likely that the man has lost his fear also thinking that they would not do anything to someone 103 years old. But he was wrong. Tamara Suju, a human rights lawyer and executive director of the CASLA Institute, denounced that Albarán was detained for four hours for demonstrating against the elections. In addition, he released a video recorded by a neighbor, which shows the moment in which he was taken away.
Is that Delivery note was transmitting the message of Juan Guaidó, who called on the Venezuelan population to stay in their homes this Sunday, so as not to endorse a process that lacks the most elementary standards of electoral transparency. “On December 6, they must stay at home and leave the dictatorship alone. It is in the street where rights are defended and there we will defend them. We have to go street to street, house to house, man to man, everything to carry the message, “said Guaidó during a tour of the Boulevard of Sabana Grande, in Caracas.
“(Maduro) continues to usurp functions in Miraflores, but we are in the place that made us the majority, in which we are allowed to defend rights … in the street, where we will continue, “he added.
Guaidó also promoted the popular consultation to be held by the National Assembly that he presides between December 5 and 12. The objective is that citizens can express their rejection of the elections organized by the government and state whether they would agree with the holding of totally free presidential elections, with full opposition participation and international monitoring.
For its part, The Venezuelan Episcopal Conference (CEV) reiterated this Monday that the elections, considered a fraud, will aggravate the crisis in the Caribbean country. “We ratify what we previously indicated by saying that the electoral event called for next December 6, far from contributing to the democratic solution of the political situation we are experiencing today, tends to aggravate it,” reads a statement from the CEV. Furthermore, they emphasize that these elections “will not help solve the real problems of the people.”
But the regime is willing to do anything to get as many votes as possible, to hide the farce. The president of the Chavista National Constituent Assembly (ANC), God given hair, on Monday launched a strong threat to the population in order to make them go to the polls to participate in elections that do not have the recognition of a large part of the international community.
“He who does not vote, does not eat. For those who do not vote, there is no food. Whoever does not vote, does not eat, a quarantine is applied there without eating “said the Chavista leader during a campaign by the Great Patriotic Pole in Carabobo state. The threat of Cabello is mainly directed at the most vulnerable sectors of the country, which to a large extent depend on the aid provided by the State.
