In a meeting of the Risk Management Council, through an expanded PMU, the Magdalena Government convened the different institutions to analyze how to solve the erosion that threatens to generate a huge flood at kilometer 2.4 of the via Salamina – El Piñón.

The decision of the calamity was made positively by all the authorities.

Extended PMU held this Sunday.

With this first step, an act will now be drawn up that will go to the Magdalena Assembly, so that the Governor is urgently empowered to transfer resources that would be administered by Cormagdalena, who has the technical knowledge to intervene at the point of erosion.

One of the issues addressed in this meeting was the uncertainty about what could happen if the Magdalena River totally undermines the road, because, according to Governor Carlos Caicedo, there are no technical studies, modeling, much less any simulation of what that could happen.

However, the inhabitants of the areas that would be affected, such as the municipality of Salamina, state that this Sunday, August 30, the scour has passed very quickly, in more than a meter in a few hours.

Governor Caicedo stated that, in the absence of certainty about what would happen, the public calamity should be anticipated to proceed immediately.

“When we do not have enough information, we can use the precautionary principle to avoid overflow”, it was raised in the Risk Management Council.

To address the emergency of erosion, it is expected to dredge, later move the road and then make a protection to avoid emergencies in the future.

Initially, it is proposed to start dredging this Monday, and for them the authorities analyze where to get the resources for the works.
