On the road that leads from Toro to Cartago, in the north of Valle del Cauca, the Traffic and Transportation Section of the Police discovered this Friday 97 people of Haitian nationality who were transported by buses without having the legal requirements to circulate through the country.
According to Colonel Jorge Urquijo, commander of the Valle Police Department, “these people were transported in two buses, from the department of Nariño, municipality of Ipiales, to the department of Antioquia, passing through El Darién and from there to the United States. Joined”.
“Two vehicles that transported these people were immobilized on highways in the department of Valle (…) There, four people are captured, members of a migrant smuggling gang that is currently being investigated by the National Police in coordination with the Attorney General’s Office, “he added.

The authorities indicated that, apparently, foreigners were required to pay $ 6 million for each person to travel through Colombian territory. In order to evade the controls of the Traffic and Transportation Police, the trips were made at peak hours.
This is the third case of this type that the Valle Police has dealt with so far in 2021, after two groups of Haitians were found, 25 while moving through Bugalagrande and 56 while passing through Palmira, both last month.
Those captured were placed at the disposal of the Prosecutor’s Office, while Migración Colombia was left in charge of the migrants.
