The Attorney General of the Nation, Francisco Barbosa, announced the capture of the alleged material author of the murder of the historian of the National University and coordinator of the Colombia Humana movement in Medellín, Campo Elías Galindo. To achieve the identification and subsequent capture of the person involved, 300 hours of video were reviewed during 23 days, open sources were consulted and the social networks of alleged perpetrators were reviewed.
According to the newspaper El Colombiano, judicial sources assure that the accused, the citizen Lina Álvarez, works offering sexual services. According to what was investigated by the Prosecutor’s Office, Galindo and Álvarez were frequenting each other, and she went to her apartment on several occasions.
According to the prosecutor, in collaboration between the elite body of Dijín and the Special Investigation Unit, the ‘Renacer’ operation was carried out, in which a woman was captured by members of the Metropolitan Police of Valle de Aburrá.

Barbosa assured, through a video posted on Twitter, that the crime was of a passionate nature, which does not agree with what the victim’s family had expressed. “The evidence collected allowed to identify the woman, who will be charged and will request the imposition of an assurance measure for the crimes of aggravated homicide and qualified theft,” said the Prosecutor.
According to General Óscar Atehortúa, director of the National Police, “the person captured is a sex worker, there was a long-standing relationship between her and the teacher, and this would have made it easier for him, for passionate reasons, to possibly perpetrate the homicide “, assured.
On a preliminary basis, the Metropolitan Police of Medellín and the Prosecutor’s Office handled various hypotheses. Among them, his ideological positions related to Antioquia Humana, a political movement affiliated with Colombia Humana, led by the senator and former presidential candidate Gustavo Petro.
However, the relatives of the historian rule out hypotheses linked to the theft of their belongings from the victim’s home. Whoever perpetrated the homicide took the political leader’s personal computer and cell phone from the apartment; despite having more valuables on the premises such as a laptop, mobile phones and a mini-component, among others.
“What we can say is that we have no indication that someone has violated him for any other reason. We do have many reasons to think that their social and political activity and the context of the country could be the reason ”, the victim’s son, Gonzalo Galindo, pointed out.
On October 1, Galindo was found at his residence, dead and with lethal stab wounds, by his daughter, who alerted the authorities. At the time of his death, the historian was 69 years old and the motives for his murder are still a matter of investigation.
According to the information in the case, the captured woman would be responsible for wounding the historian with a weapon similar to a knife, in various parts of the body, in his apartment in the Laureles neighborhood, in Medellín. The reward established by the authorities for those responsible for the crime was 20 million pesos.
Who was Campo Elías Galindo?
Campo Elías Galindo was trained at the Antioquia University High School. Later, he decided to study at the National University of Colombia, based in Medellín; institution from which he graduated as a historian and in which he studied a master’s degree in urban planning.
He was a teacher at the institution and managed to be section chief of the Administrative Unit of the Faculty of Human and Economic Sciences. On multiple occasions he taught at the University of Antioquia and did research for that institution. At the time of his murder, he was the coordinator of Colombia Humana in Medellín.
Galindo is not the only opposition leader who has been assassinated in the last part of the year. Recently, an attempt was made to assassinate indigenous senator Feliciano Valencia. On the other hand, on October 20, the homicide of Gustavo Herrera, leader of Colombia Humana in Cauca, was announced.
