“Just as we condemn police abuse, we also condemn violence and vandalism by some protesters. Abuse and violence are not solved with more violence. It is in these moments where we must cling to the Constitution and peaceful citizen mobilization, “said the president.

However, in cities such as Medellín, Cali, Tunja and Neiva there were also protests against the violent actions of the public force.

Social organizations and a group of students in Cartagena have organized sit-ins in rejection of systematic violence, massacres and police abuse.

“In the Constitution it is clear that regardless of everything the priority is life. Then the violence against the lawyer is not justified, that is why we call these peaceful sit-ins and keep the biosafety protocols so that the Government listens to us and guarantees that these types of events are not repeated, ”said Cristian David Ballestas, a student from the university of Cartagena.

The sit-in ‘for life and peace’ will take place on Friday, September 11, at the Cartagena Metropolitan Police Command at 4:00 in the afternoon.

A second sit-in will be held on Saturday, September 12 at 8:00 in the morning in the Bomba El Amparo sector.

According to the organizers, these symbolic and protest actions seek to demand justice for the death of Dilan Cruz who died when he was hit in the head by an Esmad agent and Harold Morales Payares, the young athlete killed by a police in San Francisco.

Candle for life

The San Francisco neighborhood community has not yet recovered from Harold Morales. This September 10 there will be a ‘Candle for Life’ in memory of this young athlete who died after being hit by a bullet in his back when he was working in a car wash.
