He noted that this “type of attacks are judged under Law 1773 of 2016, which toughens the penalties in cases of attacks with chemical agents in Colombia and raises the penalties for aggressors, which can range from 30 to 50 years in prison.”

Injuries caused by chemical agents do not enjoy the benefits of conditional suspension of the execution of the sentence, of house arrest and of any other judicial or administrative nature.

The authorities captured a 34-year-old woman, accused of attacking a 14-year-old minor with acid, in Girón, Santander. A Guarantee Control judge sent the aggressor to jail for the events that occurred in the Villampis neighborhood of the Santander municipality.

Apparently, the attack was due to personal problems between the two women. According to witness testimonies, the 14-year-old girl was walking close to her house when a woman on a motorcycle approached her, they had an argument, the motorcyclist pulled out a scalpel and began to attack the young woman. Failing to accomplish his task, he pulled out a jar of acid and threw it in the teenager’s face. Immediately, the aggressor fled, but thanks to the quick intervention of the authorities, she was captured minutes later.

“In this struggle, the captured one tried to injure the minor with a scalpel-type sharp weapon. When he did not achieve the task, he threw what would be a chemical substance in her face, and was immediately helped by the uniformed men who came to know the case, “they indicated from the Bucaramanga Metropolitan Police.

The lawyer who took the security measure determined that the aggressor was of foreign origin and had within her belongings the scalpel and the chemical with which she attacked the minor, which served as probative material to make the decision to put her after the jail.

“The Police capture a 34-year-old woman of foreign nationality. This person is accused of attacking with a knife and a chemical substance on the face of a minor under 14 years old. Apparently these events occurred in the midst of passion problems “reported General Luis García, commander of the Bucaramanga Metropolitan Police.

After the acid attack, the adolescent was referred to the Girón Hospital where her health was evaluated, due to the severity of her injuries, she was taken to the Santander University Hospital. The Police referred to the incident and in a press release assured that “-the victim- is still receiving medical attention, pending the evaluations of the medical specialists who will define the procedures to be followed,” the authorities said.

Brigadier General Luis García, commander of the Bucaramanga Metropolitan Police, said that the reasons for the fight were due, preliminarily, to a discussion for “passionate” reasons.

“The National Police made the chemical substance and this person available and at this time an intramural security measure was issued,” General García said.
