Knowing the hours in which the conservative leader Álvaro Gómez taught at the Sergio Arboleda University was what triggered the plan that finally ended up ending the life of the former president of the constituency and former presidential candidate on November 2, 1985.

This was explained to the magistrates of the Special Jurisdiction for Peace and representatives of the victims by the senator of the Farc party Carlos Antonio Lozada, who at that time was working as commander of the urban network Antonio Nariño, who according to he recognized executed three of the six murders of political impact that were recognized by the Farc recently.

Lozada acknowledged that the crimes committed by the FARC were not part of a very structured plan but rather were caused by some circumstantial circumstance such as having access to information about the victim or that there was an event that could facilitate the crime.

In the case of Gómez, Lozada explained that the conservative leader, since the creation of the Farc, was seen by that organization as one of the people responsible for having unleashed the conflict with the State.

However, having access to the hours in which the conservative leader gave classes at the Sergio Arboleda University, the urban network Antonio Nariño requested at that time authorization to commit the crime from the Eastern Bloc, which at that time was commanded by Jorge Briceño, alias’ Mono Jojoy ‘, and got it.

Even, Lozada said, the crime was committed in a short time, less than a month after the order was given, because university vacations were close and they had to execute the crime before they arrived.

Lozada also said that the action was carried out by four men who were part of the Antonio Nariño urban network command, three of them already dead: alias ‘Danilo’, who died in a confrontation with the Public Force between Fusagasugá and Arbeláez; Chayanne, who died as a result of the Mondoñedo massacre, which is also the subject of a process before the JEP; Freddy, also killed in that massacre, and Sebastián, who deserted some time after the FARC, and Lozada said he did not know his current situation.

According to Lozada, Álvaro Gómez was seen by the FARC as one of the persons responsible for having unleashed the conflict with the State.

Other crimes

Lozada also spoke of the crimes of General (r) Fernando Landazábal and former guerrilla commanders José Fedor Rey and Hernando Pizarro.

In the case of General (r) Landazábal, he pointed out that he was considered a military objective for the guerrillas, not only because of his status as a general but also as one of the “ideologists of the counterinsurgent war.”

He added that what precipitated his assassination was that the guerrillas accessed a business card with the address of his office.

This allowed them to discover that he was a few blocks from his house and that part of his routine was that he made a regular tour from his house to his office. At that moment, they make the decision to assassinate him.

As Lozada explained, three members of the Antonio Nariño urban network participated in the operation, led by alias Javier Paz, who died in 2004, a victim of cancer. Also taking part were ‘Danilo’, who led the crime of Álvaro Gómez, and ‘Armando’, who died in 1999, in a confrontation with the police.

In the case of Hernando Pizarro, who was commander of the Ricardo Franco front, along with José Fedor Rey, Lozada explained that they were considered a target by the Farc for having committed the Tacueyó massacre.

The crime was committed by a command of the Antonio Nariño urban network, led by Vladimir Zambrano, Ruben, who later died in the events of Mondoñedo.

The guerrillas posed as agents of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and took Pizarro away with a false search warrant. On the way, Pizarro realized that they were going to kill him and began to shout in the street for help, but he could not prevent the murder.

Regarding the crimes of Pablo Emilio Guarín and Jesús Bejarano, Lozada stated that he had no further information because they were committed by another guerrilla cell that was not under his command.

However, regarding Guarín’s case, he pointed out that he was identified as the head of a paramilitary organization in Magdalena Medio, while de Bejarano affirmed that he was identified as someone who had the instruction of the Gaviria Government to hinder the peace process that in that time At the time, they sought to negotiate with the Simón Bolívar Guerrilla Coordinator and rather to split up that structure that combined all the guerrilla groups of the time.
