There will be no new isolation in the whole country: President Iván Duque

The holiday season has been constituted in a challenge for health authorities in relation to the management of the pandemic of the Covid-19. In the midst of the actions that have been taken to prevent a massive spread of the virus in the country, President Iván Duque Márquez made a call to “not lower our guard” amid the celebrations.

“This will be an unusual Christmas, but it cannot be less happy than before. The best way to celebrate is to understand that we must take care of ourselves and our loved ones. This Christmas we want celebrate life with distancing and wearing masks“Said the president in dialogue with EL HERALDO.

He explained that the pandemic in the country has not had a uniform behavior, for which they have not raised the possibility of decreeing a new generalized isolation.

However, he was emphatic in holding thate epidemiological monitoring is being carried out in each city to determine the measures that should be applied to avoid further damage by the virus.

“There is the possibility of outbreaks, because the pandemic has had a dissimilar behavior between regions. Strict control measures will be taken in those places that present a very high impact ”, he added.

He also indicated that restrictions on the sale of liquor have already been adopted in some areas of the country: “We do not want citizens to relax and be in festive environments, believing that nothing is happening.”

In addition, he explained that in parallel to this process of safeguarding health and life, he has opted for the reactivation of the economy in the country, being Barranquilla one of the most benefited regions.

“Barranquilla has been the city that fastest has recovered in Colombia, which has recovered jobs faster. We have worked in a coordinated manner and we have done so protecting health and life, as well as micro, medium and large companies ”, he said.

Vaccination

President Iván Duque indicated that they have been working so that the vaccination process in the country begins before February of next year.

He explained that the national government is part of the Covax global initiative, and in parallel it has been carrying out bilateral talks with four companies.

These conversations take place within the framework of a confidentiality agreement. We will be informing the country once we have closed the contracts, “he added.

Finally, Duque reiterated that “the country will have this vaccination cycle and we will try to make it as widespread as possible. We will try to develop it with all the speed and with a singular logistical capacity ”.
