During the celebration of the traditional Day of the Candles, which took place on Monday night, there were five people injured by handling gunpowder, according to the report delivered by the Ministry of Health.
Miyerlandi Torres, in charge of the office, gave some details of the cases attended despite the fact that the use and commercialization of these elements is not allowed in the city.
“During the celebration of the Day of the Candles, we have a report of five people injured. One of them is a 16-year-old teenager who suffered a grade 2 injury to his left hand when he was handling a ballot,” said the official.
Regarding the other cases, he indicated that the patients are adults, between 28 and 62 years old, with “grade one, two and three” injuries in the upper extremities, and one in the leg. The most serious case corresponds to a 54-year-old man who suffered severe trauma to his left hand while handling a flask.

With this report, the number of gunpowder burns in the city rose to six cases, so the authorities insist on avoiding its use during the Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations.
“Despite the prevention campaigns that we carry out from the agency, we continue to show that there are people who do not comply with the recommendation. Gunpowder is not a game, so we say no to the manipulation and commercialization of these elements in the city,” he emphasized Towers.
It should be remembered that on December 7, 2019, the Mayor’s Office reported six injured (one child and five adults). On that occasion, in addition to the Day of the Candles, the city celebrated the triumph of América de Cali in the final of the Colombian soccer tournament.
When comparing the reports of the local authorities, there was one less case than last year.
