It will be President Iván Duque who will have in his hands the decision on what will be the increase in the minimum wage for 2021, after employers and workers failed to reach an agreement.
This Friday, the businessmen proposed an increase, no longer of 2%, like the one they had offered a few days ago, but of 2.7%, with which the minimum wage would be $ 901,504.
For transportation assistance they offered an increase of 5.49%, with which this benefit would remain at $ 108,496, for a total of $ 1,010,000, including salary and assistance.

However, the labor unions remained in their initial position of increasing the minimum wage to 1 million pesos and the transportation assistance to 120 thousand pesos.
While employers have stated that raising the minimum wage must be prudent to prevent an increase in the unemployment rate, which exceeds 14%, and to combat informal employment, unions argue that the Government must make a greater effort to support companies in paying their payroll and to guarantee Colombians a base income during the pandemic.
The Government has until December 30 to make the increase official, by decree.
