The unusual discovery of two million pesos to a street inhabitant – Medellín – Colombia

An unusual finding was made by the authorities of the municipality of Marinilla (Oriente de Antioquia) this weekend when they realized that an older adult living on the streets had among her belongings – between bills and coins – more than two million pesos.

The Mayor’s Office of that municipality had received the alert of the illegal occupation of the public space by this woman and upon arriving at the site, among her belongings, such as detergent jars, lunch boxes and other containers, they found the money.

Apparently, the woman had mental health problems and was engaged in begging. According to the Mayor’s Office, she had refused to be placed in a gerontological care home on five occasions.

“We have counted in bills of denominations from 1,000 to 50,000 the value of 2,423,000 pesos and we are counting the coins,” explained Verónica Giraldo, secretary of the Marinilla Family, to the regional channel Teleantioquia.

The woman was not a native of the municipality, so another option that was offered was transportation to her hometown.

It is not yet clear how long it took the woman to collect the sum of money. For now, this amount will remain in the hands of the Municipality.
