After the departure of Carlos Queiroz from the Colombian National Team, the Colombian Football Federation began with the search for the replacement of the Portuguese on the bench of the national team. Several experienced technicians appeared on the Tricolor’s radar, but it is Reinaldo Rueda, the strategist who, so far, is emerging as the most optioned candidate to assume this position.
Rueda, 63, is the current coach of the Chilean Senior National Team, so the news of his possible arrival in Colombia did not cease to generate controversy in the southern country.
The ANFP reported in recent days that it has given the Colombian DT the green light to begin adjusting the terms of its arrival at the Tricolor, so there was already a first approach with the Federation, and it is expected that before end of 2020, an official pronouncement is made.
From Chile they see with good eyes the departure of Rueda de la Selección, reason that gives them, to begin to analyze the possible candidates to occupy the position that the Caleño would leave in the middle of the Qualifiers.
Precisely, according to the media in this country, there are three technicians who would be in the deck to reach the southern team, among which an ‘old acquaintance’ in Colombia stands out: José Néstor Pékerman.
Ariel holan
The first candidate to replace Rueda is Argentine Ariel Holan. The strategist fulfills a great campaign with the Catholic University in this country, so his knowledge of local football, in addition to his experience in clubs such as Independiente, guarantee that he is one of those chosen to occupy the position
Jose Pékerman
The second in the deck is José Néstor Pékerman. The Argentine, with a great step with the Colombian National Team, is one of the strong candidates that sound to lead Chile. Pékerman, a connoisseur of South American football, led the Tricolor to two World Cups in a row, so his arrival would be ideal for the goals of the Chilean team.
Gabriel Heinze
The last one to appear on Chile’s radar is Gabriel Heinze. The former soccer player of the celeste and now coach, is one of the ‘fashionable’ technicians in South America, his good campaign with Vélez Sarsfield has led him to be followed by several teams, and precisely, ‘the red’, would be one of those institutions interested.
