The taunts of Claudia López to Enrique Peñalosa by TransMilenio on 13th street – Bogotá

Mayor Claudia López assured this Tuesday that a smaller TransMilenio will be made on 13th Street than the one that its predecessor, Enrique Peñalosa, had structured for that road corridor that connects Bogotá with western Cundinamarca.

The pronouncement was made by the mandatory after four agreements were signed with which the Mayor’s Office of Bogotá, the Government of Cundinamarca and the National Government commit to jointly develop road and rail infrastructure projects, in order to integrate the region.

Among these agreements is the one that seeks to improve the connectivity of the western edge and that has Calle 13 as its main axis.

In fact, this corridor has been in the eye of the hurricane in recent days, because with the implementation of a cycle route through the center, it generated the reaction of Governor Nicolás García, who asked that joint formulas be studied, and the protest of cargo and passenger transporters, because their travel time was increased by this route.

According to the mayor, the TransMilenio that will take place on 13th Street will not be the same as the one left by its predecessor. He assured: “It will be half the size proposed, given that the passenger demand will be distributed with the Regiotram de Occidente so that they complement each other and leave another lane to load and another to the bicycle lane.

And I add: “The TransMilenio calle 13 project that the previous administration left was unfairly competing with Regiotram de Occidente, instead of complementing it, and the only source of funding it had was a new and expensive toll. That is from every point of view undesirable. That is why we modify it “.

Claudia López also explained that the proposed western border package “optimizes the Western Regiotram, integrates it into Bogotá’s public transportation system, extends and widens Calle 13, the ALO to Calle 80 and makes a smaller TransMilenio in number 13, with cycle route, load and complementary to the Regiotram “.

Hours earlier, former mayor Enrique Peñalosa had also published on the social network Twitter: “Removing TransMilenio from the design of the calle 13 disque so as not to affect the RegioTram is a mistake. Second, those who live on the south side of 13th Street and will be living in new projects are a long way from RegioTram. Third, the RegioTram is already full of municipalities. “

And he added: “Fourth, the RegioTram does NOT have tariff integration with TransMilenio, so that citizens who get on the RegioTram, for example in Fontibón, would have to pay to enter RegioTram and then again to switch to TransMilenio.”

According to Peñalosa, RegioTram has a low capacity of 8,400 passengers per hour / direction, compared to 40,000 that TransMilenio could have on 13th Street.

The former mayor also affirmed that the 13th street that he left designed not only had the resources of the tolls of the paid lanes, but those of the highway to the West, from 2024, that the National Government had offered. And 140,000 million in properties and the authorization to sell 9 percent of Grupo Energía Bogotá (GEB).

The idea of the four agreements signed is to connect the eastern western edges of the country’s capital with the department of Cundinamarca through road or rail infrastructure projects.

This includes, in addition to Calle 13, the extension of Calle 63 towards Cundinamarca and ALO Sur, between Calle 13 and Calle 80; a perimeter road of the Sabana and an alternate road.

And on the eastern edge, the expansion of the North highway to five lanes is contemplated, with its overpass through the Torca wetland, and the seventh race in the Bogotá section. This project also includes a variant to Sopó.

There is also Bogotá’s adherence to the Northern Regiotram project and the possibility of the capital joining the Western Regiotram. This option is subject to the time allowed by the concession that has already been awarded and which is soon to begin works.

Among these initiatives is also the extension of the subway to Suba, which should be defined in a future meeting.
