The former president of the Vallecaucana Boxing League remains imprisoned, as a preventive measure, while the criminal process against him for sexual exploitation is defined. El Espectador reveals details of what his complainant and two witnesses said at the Prosecutor’s Office.

More than a week ago Jaime Cuéllar, former president of the Vallecaucana Boxing League, was captured in the middle of an investigation that is being carried out against him for sexual exploitation, and was sent to the Buga jail as a preventive measure while the criminal process is defined . The complaint was made by Margarita *, who said that Cuellar asked her to have sex in exchange for receiving the endowment at a sporting event in 2011, when she was a boxer and a minor. For these facts, the Prosecutor’s Office charged Cuéllar with the crime of claiming the commercial sexual exploitation of a person under 18 years of age. El Espectador learned of documents from the judicial file, which contains interviews with the complainant and two witnesses. Margarita’s story was received by investigators on March 3 at 11:20 am in Buga (Valle). The woman, who is 27 years old today, but at the time of the events was 17, said that in 2011, when she was a competitor in a boxing championship in Restrepo (Valle), the then president of the Vallecaucana Boxing League invited her to his hotel room to deliver a sports equipment. “I went alone. Upon arrival, he told me to lie there with him and suggested that we have sex, in exchange for my money. I told him no, to remove the pin from the door, and I left the site. So, I went to the hotel where I was staying and told my teacher (…) I also told my teammates from the league, ”Margarita said. Faced with the question of whether she knew of any other athlete being allegedly harassed by Cuéllar, the complainant replied: “No, I entered at the age of 15 and I retired at 19. During the time I remained there, I had no knowledge but of what happened to me and it was only in that Restrepo championship ”. On the same March 3, but at 4:20 p.m., the Prosecutor’s Office interviewed two teachers who supported the woman’s story. One of them, Fabián *, affirmed that the complainant is a friend of a relative and, in a chat between friends, she told what had happened to him with Cuéllar in 2011. “As since 2006 or 2007, I found out that this man that he was president of the league (…) he gave the girls money for being with him, he offered them uniforms, trips and things to be with him (…) In 2018 I heard other rumors that were already more forceful about that man. With Professor Sergio *, we asked the girls if these rumors were true, and they said yes, they had evidence (…) We followed them up and they reported ”, added Fabián.

The professor also reported that he has been affected by providing support to the complainants because, according to him, Jaime Cuéllar prohibited him and his partner from entering the Mariano Ramos Coliseum. “We blocked our work in the Sports Department, they did not hire us again (…) What happens is that this man never thought that Margarita was going to report the events that happened in Restrepo and, as that has come out by all the media Now he wants to defend himself by pouring the dirty water on us ”, Fabián added to the researchers.

In the interview, the coach also said that there are athletes who retired from boxing or who retracted the complaints made against Cuéllar and who even signed documents under the threat that, if they did not withdraw, they would not participate in competitions again. The second teacher and witness, Sergio *, added that in an audio that was sent to his cell phone, Cuellar was heard proposing to an athlete to go to his office. “He said to come at 3 in the afternoon, that at that time there is no one and I have a mat, that he had condoms and that ‘you are not going to have problems with me’, that I gave him $ 50,000 or $ 60,000, that was between she and Cuéllar ”. That audio has already been delivered to the Prosecutor’s Office.

Coach Sergio finished by saying in his speech that Jaime Cuéllar refers to the fact that he has people. “The only thing I want to make clear is that if something happens to me, it is on the part of this man, because I have no problem with anyone at this time. I hold Mr. Jaime Cuéllar Vargas directly responsible, ”the professor pointed out.

On February 23, investigators from the Prosecutor’s Office sent a letter to the manager of Indervalle, Carlos Felipe López, asking him to accredit Jaime Cuéllar’s status as president of the Valle del Cauca Boxing League, as well as the documentation that accredits Margarita as athlete of that organization in 2011. One day after that request, Cuéllar’s resignation from his position was announced for “personal reasons”.

In the file of the Prosecutor’s Office there is also an inspection report at the hotel in Restrepo (Valle), where the events reported by Margarita would have occurred. The investigators’ visit took place on March 5 in the city center, and photographs were taken of the outside and the room where Cuéllar would have stayed.

In addition to Margarita’s complaint, there is another complaint against Jaime Cuéllar filed by four women in 2018 for sexual harassment. That case is in the hands of the Criminal Court 7 of the Cali Circuit, which has already formulated the accusation. One of the complainants said that Cuéllar gave her things and money, in exchange for her coming to his office to touch her body. “He told me that with him I could have opportunities,” said one of the women in her story. Now justice will have to determine whether the former sports manager is guilty or innocent of what the five women accuse him of.
