President Iván Duque will make a lightning trip this weekend to Bolivia and Chile, as part of his busy international agenda to seek new cooperation mechanisms with other Latin American countries.

The president will leave this Saturday, November 7, to Bolivia, where he will attend the inauguration of President Luis Arce. In the Andean country, he will meet with the King of Spain, Felipe VI, and the Paraguayan head of state, Mario Abdo Benítez.

During his visit to Bolivia, the Colombian president will try to promote the Andean Community of Nations (CAN), which Colombia presides pro tempore.

After your agency in Bolivia, Iván Duque will travel to Chile where he will hold a meeting with his counterpart Sebastián Piñera, to talk about the presidency of the Pacific Alliance, which will be handed over by the Chileans to Colombia in a few weeks.

They will also talk about the measures that have been taken in the countries to face the pandemic caused by the coronavirus, the economic reactivation and epidemiological situations in the region and the management to find a vaccine will be inspected.

The new Minister of the Environment, Carlos Eduardo Correa, will accompany the president, as there are environmental issues that will be discussed with Chile.

On the other hand, the agenda of the Colombian president is centered on environmental issues such as the PreCOP on biodiversity, a meeting prior to COP15, which will be held in Colombia in 2021; COP26 on climate change; the Pact of the Amazon (signed last year by seven countries, including Bolivia), the protection of the oceans and the use of plastics.

The Conference of the Parties (COP) is the Annual Summit held by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, where 196 countries plus the European Union meet. It will take place in Glasgow (United Kingdom) in November 2021, and Colombia will host the PreCOP.

President Duque, who returns to Bogotá on Sunday night, will travel accompanied by the Chief of Staff, María Paula Correa, and the Ministers of Foreign Relations, Claudia Blum, and the Ministers of Environment and Sustainable Development, Carlos Eduardo Correa; the Vice Minister of Multilateral Affairs of the Foreign Ministry, Adriana Mejía, and the Vice Minister of Foreign Trade, Laura Valdivieso.

Colombia has chaired the CAN since July 8 and among its proposals to revitalize the integration bloc, also made up of Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru, the Andean Environmental Charter stands out, which establishes the axes to combat climate change and protect ecosystems. region of.

This Letter was presented on September 1 at the 20th Extraordinary Meeting of the Andean Council of Foreign Ministers.

That same day, it was approved to strengthen the Simón Bolívar Andean University and Colombia announced, on behalf of the Andean Community, a contribution to the Pan American Health Organization for 500 thousand dollars, to contribute to access to vaccines and supplies against covid-19.

The country is also one of the founders of the Pacific Alliance, created in 2011 together with Chile, Mexico and Peru.

Duque will receive the pro tempore presidency of this group starting next December, from the Chilean president and it will be for one year.

Meanwhile, Prosur emerged from the meeting of South American presidents held on March 22, 2019, in which the ‘Presidential Declaration on the Renewal and Strengthening of the Integration of South America’ was signed, and has had as main managers Presidents Duque and Piñera.

Colombia is also preparing to assume the pro tempore presidency of Prosur, which Chile has held since its foundation.
