As is tradition in the last month of the year, Bogotá had planned to carry out its traditional night bike lane next Thursday, December 10. However, the plan was canceled as announced by Mayor Claudia López.

The president of Bogotá assured that they made the decision to cancel the activity after “learning the lesson” of what happened at the end of November when the Christmas lights were turned on in Bogotá and criticism rained down for the agglomeration that was presented during the event .

“Although it is a happy occasion, it can be a risk for crowds, unnecessary this season,” said López.

The official information indicated that the bike lane would run from 6 in the afternoon until 12 at night. The route would be 98.4 kilometers through several important avenues and streets of the country’s capital and it was expected that at least 2 million people would participate in this event.

“We are supporting formal and informal merchants because they are literally doing their December to try to close the year with the best possible sales in this season that has been so difficult. For them we have ‘Bogotá under the open sky’, ‘Bogotá 24 hours “which I invite you to visit in Chapinero. In addition, more than 10 Christmas trade fairs in different parts of the city to support their activity”, concluded López.
