Susana Gutiérrez, one of the passengers who arrived on the first international flight from Miami, Florida, was happy to be able to return to her homeland after months of being “stranded” outside the country.

“Since April I have been trying to buy the ticket, I bought it about four times. I feel very happy, there is nothing like one’s home, the people, the rhythm. My family is waiting for me out there and I am very excited, ”said Susana Gutiérrez.

Outside the airport, at the departure gate for travelers landing in the city, there was Carmen Fernández, an older woman, who held balloons in her hands and kept looking out anxiously to see her older sister in the distance, who was trapped in the United States when the pandemic started.

“Since January my sister went for a medical check-up, the pandemic caught her and couldn’t return. We are happy, a giant emotion because it was something uncertain, every month they postponed the opening of the airport and it was not achieved, until finally, this is like a reunion of a new life, “said the woman.

Around 12:22 pm yesterday, the first international flight landed at the Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport, after more than six months of the closure of domestic air operations.

Coming from Miami, Florida, American Airlines flight 1125 arrived with 143 passengers. The arrival of this first international flight takes place within the framework of the second phase of international air reactivation promoted by the national government, as stated by the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Olga Lucía Ramírez.

“From phase two of the international reactivation we have so far with the four airports that have been operating 15,000 passengers, with which adding Barranquilla, Pereira, Armenia and Bucaramanga, which are phase two, we hope to increase passengers by much more”.
