A harsh warning was issued by the Attorney General to the Director of the Police, General Óscar Atehortua, during the disciplinary trial that is being advanced against him on four charges.
(In context: The process that brought two senior police generals against it).
The prosecutor in the case told the officer that he is either fulfilling his duties or dedicating his time to defend himself in the trial for alleged irregularities in his management during the construction of some Police houses.
The Attorney General’s response was given after he cited the continuation of the trial for this Saturday, December 5, and General Atehortúa indicated that he could not because he had already planned a Security Council and had to attend it. He also stated that this week he has attended the proceedings in the Public Ministry on three additional occasions to the one initially planned.

“I cannot attend on Saturday and I am interested in attending (…) this was not on my agenda, I am making every effort to attend all the hearings “, said the senior officer.
And he added: “With the activities of public order in the country I do not determine my agenda.”
The attorney general’s office argued that although initially only one day a week had been scheduled to hold the hearings, it is necessary that the processes be concentrated and that the evidence be fresh.
Indicated that it is required expedite the practice of the last remaining tests.

At the insistence of General Atehortua, the prosecutor in the case replied: “I am going to tell you something that seems strong but it is like that, The time will come when either you fulfill your functions as Director of the Police or defend yourself in this trial, because it cannot be that we are delaying this and that the same audience is harming you to fulfill your functions “.
To which the officer pointed out: “What I am trying to do is perform my duties very well and, of course, to be able to be here to exercise my defense and they are notifying me two days before a hearing that was not scheduled.”
Finally, the prosecutor scheduled four days of hearing for next week, which generated the claim of the defense of the general brought by the lawyer Marco Antonio Velilla.

The lawyer asked for procedural guarantees for his defense and the attorney said: “Is it not useful either?” and asked if the defense has any interest in not holding the hearings.
“The only interest is that due process, the right of defense, the right of contradiction be respected and that the normal pauses required for the defense of a person of the quality of the director of the Police be respected,” said Velilla.
