Bogotá, September 7, 2020. The Unity Party regrets the death of the former congressman and founder of the community, Aurelio Iragorri Hormaza. We send an affectionate and supportive message to his children Aurelio, Susana, Cristina and Patricia Iragorri Valencia, and other relatives, friends and loved ones.

Iragorri Hormaza was a man dedicated to the service of citizenship, from public institutions he carved out a fundamental path for the territorial ordering of the country, he accompanied initiatives in Congress for the benefit of the regions, social justice and equity.
Civil Engineer by profession, he worked in companies in the electricity sector where he took the step to be appointed Governor of Cauca in 1974 with the endorsement of the Liberal Party, later he reached the House of Representatives in 1978, being its President in 1981. Likewise, he was Deputy for his department between 1984 and 1986, year in which he was elected Senator of the Republic, being president of this corporation in the period 1990 – 1991.
In 2005 he founded, together with former president Juan Manuel Santos, the Social Party of National Unity for which he served as senator of the Republic from 2006 to 2014 when he decided to end his career in the legislature.
In total, they were 36 years occupying a seat in Congress, where he lived, and was part of the great transformations of the country; His political legacy will remain in time, being remembered as one of the politicians most devoted to the causes of the people, of the regions, and of those who see politics as the path to equity, peace, and reconciliation in Colombia.
