The world of gastronomy is in mourning after the death of the famous pastry chef Myriam Camhi, who managed to create one of the most important and beloved brands in Bogotá and Colombia.

Mrs. Camhi, who sold her first soursop meringon with servings for 10 to 12 people in 1982, eventually became a pioneer of ‘gourmet’ pastries.

That dessert became so famous that she began to sell it in her garage at home and later took her delicacies to hotels, which discovered other flavors thanks to her.

Myriam Camhi, who turned 80 on December 25, He was born in Buga and studied at the Liceo Benalcázar in Cali, but later moved to Bogotá. He was in the furniture business, but later took a sweeter path.

This famous confectioner He began his work in the garage of his house, from where he sold his preparations to friends and acquaintances.

However, with the passing of time the garage from which he dispatched became small due to the demand for products, for which he soon decided to rent a space in the kitchen of a restaurant, which allowed him to increase production and expand the market for its products. In 2000 he opened his first cafe in the country’s capital and, later, he moved to Calle 81 with Carrera 8.ª, where today his main headquarters are located and from where hiss products to different parts of the country.

“She was a very shy woman, but at the same time very simple and loved by all”, his daughter Denise Simhon Camhi told EL TIEMPO.

“She, with her family recipes and her sweetness, opened a path at a time when there were not so many options in this type of pastry (…). In fact, many of the girls who started with us in the garage of the house still continue to help us, keeping those recipes and their memory, because my mother inspired a lot ”, he added.
