Valle del Cauca was the second region in the country with the most new cases of covid-19 in the last 24 hours, only behind Bogotá, the Ministry of Health reported on Monday.
According to the epidemiological bulletin, 680 infections were confirmed in the department between Sunday and Monday, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases in the Valley to 65,733.
The Ministry also confirmed eight new deaths from the virus in the region, four of them in Cali and the rest in Palmira, Cairo, Cartago and Roldanillo.

Colombia exceeds 862,000 cases
At the national level, the Ministry of Health reported a total of 7,106 new cases in the last 24 hours. In total, 35,973 tests, 23,561 PCR and 12,412 antigens were analyzed.
The regions with the most reported infections were Bogotá (2,011), Valle del Cauca (680), Meta (404), Cundinamarca (348) and Huila (331). The total number of coronavirus cases in Colombia reached 862,158, of which 67,114 remain active.
Health authorities also announced that 4,626 people overcame the disease in the last 24 hours and that 132 deaths from the virus were confirmed, of which 123 occurred more than a day ago.
The total number of recovered in the country reached 766,300, while that of deaths reached 26,844.
Colombia is the fifth country in the world with the most infections, behind the United States, India, Brazil and Russia, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
In deaths, the country ranks eleventh, behind the United States, Brazil, India, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Italy, Peru, France, Spain and Iran.
