The new operator of the electric power service in Barranquilla has already begun its connection work to replace Electricaribe from the first of October next.
This was confirmed this Wednesday by the Mayor of Barranquilla, Jaime Pumarejo, in a conference call with the directors of the Costa Energy Consortium, which will assume the Caribe Sol segment, for the provision of energy service and the improvement of electrical infrastructure in the city and three departments of the Caribbean region.

“Electricaribe has its days numbered,” said Pumarejo in this teleconference, in which he assured that in his administration is reviewing the form, “how are we going to help them to make their arrival easier, and that in the short term they can improve the service ”.
Through a press release, Pumarejo emphasized that support for the company that will replace Electricaribe will be focused on the normalization of subnormal sectors, which would initially start with 17 neighborhoods in the city benefiting more than 10,000 users.

The president also referred to the District’s electric self-generation projects for schools, hospitals, and central buildings of the mayor’s office.
“We will work so that they have the necessary support and improve the service of each one of us,” said Mayor Pumarejo, who did not miss the opportunity to question the service that Electricaribe is providing, noting that: “in this pandemic we have suffered more because we have had to live with blackouts in our homes and with hours and days without electricity. ”
It should be remembered that Caribe Sol will have 1.21 million clients in the departments of Atlántico, Magdalena and La Guajira.

Another evil of the pandemic
For her part, the Governor of the Atlantic, Elsa Noguera, referred to the difficulties generated by the Electricaribe service in the population of the Department and which is added as another evil in times of pandemic.
“Electricaribe has not helped anything. I suffer from it in all municipalities, because when the electricity goes out, the aqueduct system goes out. In the midst of a pandemic, we cannot afford. That is a daily fight every day. The situation is quite critical, “he said.
The Governor explained that she has directly requested the Superintendency of Public Services and the intervener to invest in this system in the Atlantic in order to improve the provision of the service, taking into account that the new operator is in a transition stage of the process. which is carried out to receive the company.
“Although the Government is making an investment of 880 billion this year and next year it is the turn of the new operator, please include our contingency plans, such as the aqueduct systems in certain sectors that are already deteriorated and we are fighting so that part of the first investments go to the Atlantic, since the pandemic has also highlighted the weakness of our electricity system, ”he closed.
