Although the Office of the Attorney General of the Nation has already announced that motorcycles and private cars that provide public transport services without authorization will be sanctioned, the union maintains the call for a national strike of taxi drivers.
The taxi drivers, through the union leader Hugo Ospina, pointed out that the protest in Bogotá and other cities in the country is due to alleged breaches of President Iván Duque, who in the campaign received the support of the ‘yellows’.
Likewise, the taxi drivers strike is called to reject bills that are being processed in Congress in order to legalize the transportation service of individuals, which offered through apps like Uber, Lyft, and inDriver.
Meeting points for the taxi drivers’ strike in Bogotá
There are various sectors of the city where taxi drivers have planned to meet to move around in caravans and on foot, according to Semana.
Those points are:
-
- Engativá Pueblo
- Free Trade Zone, at street 15 with Carrera 106
- Kid’s museum
- The ceiling
- 170th Street with North Highway
- Calle 63 with Carrera 60
In other cities such as Pereira, Medellín, Cali, Manizales, Dosquebradas, Cartagena and Bucaramanga there are also mobilizations of taxi drivers.
However, Hugo Ospina indicated weeks ago that the greatest concentration will be held in Bogotá to where some taxi drivers from other parts of the country will travel.
According to the union leader, there will be no crowds during the mobilization and there will be no violent acts or traffic blockages, as read in the following trill:
The date of the great mobilization has changed, now it will be all united for the second great national crusade of the taxi drivers union bound for Bogotá! will take place on November 24 and 25! It will be a historic day for the taxi drivers union! No violence, no blockages!
