In a 23-page document, known by NotiCentro1 CM &, the defense minister, Carlos Holmes Trujillo García, answers one by one the 19 questions that this Wednesday must expand before the senators of the Second Commission, in a debate on political control, for monitoring and profiling opposition leaders, journalists and defenders of the peace process.

In the answer to question 8, the minister is clear in ensuring that intelligence and counterintelligence agencies do not have interception of communications among their functions:

“In that order of ideas, the interception of private telephone, mobile or landline conversations, as well as private data communications, are an activity of the authorities with judicial police functions within an investigative process, in which it must be observed and guarantee due process. This is not an intelligence and counterintelligence function ”.

And in relation to the actions that the national government has taken against those responsible for these actions, the Defense Minister responds to the Senate that they are not “Shake your hand to defend the application of the law and the legitimacy of the security forces.”

And it goes further. In what is understood as a sweep of rotten apples within the Forces, he says that in recent months changes have been made to the structure of the Army.

“The commanders of 24 intelligence and counterintelligence units across the country were changed.”

The Defense Minister clarifies, of course, by expanding his answer to question 12 sent by the senators of the Second Commission, about what he has done in the face of the alleged “criminal acts committed by intelligence and counterintelligence uniforms”, that those facts they are individual and not corporate.

“It is important to mention that there is talk of alleged illegal activities that are carried out as an individual criminal act, from underground.”

The responses of the Defense Minister to the Senate were forwarded by his Cabinet Secretary, Óscar Ortiz, under file OFI20-33200, signed this Tuesday, May 12.

This Wednesday, the defense ministers, Carlos Holmes Trujillo García; of the Interior, Alicia Arango, the military leadership and the intelligence and counterintelligence commanders, will move to the board in the Second Committee of the Senate, in charge of national security issues, in a debate on political control that, in principle, the Liberal and Conservative and joined by other communities such as the Democratic Pole and the Green Alliance.
