Rogino became a hero minutes before he died, a victim of Hurricane Iota in Providencia.
Dana Henry, his wife and a nurse by profession, confesses that she had a bad feeling that shook her soul.

“He was going through a very difficult time there in the hospital, because he also began to collapse,” says the woman.

She was on duty, while her four children, her father and her husband fought away from there trying to get to safety in the church that could withstand the onslaught of Hurricane Iota.

“He picked me up by the rear and said: ‘grab me by the neck and I’m going to pull you out the window,’” says neighbor Erminda.

He sadly says that he lived to testify to Rogino’s heroism. If not for him, he simply wouldn’t be telling the story today.

The 47-year-old islander, in addition to being a motorcycle taxi driver, had the gift of serving others and, according to what they say, managed to save the lives of many.

“To her entire family, they were her daughters with their husbands, bringing the women and children, the grandfather, Mrs. Erminda, her sister and more neighbors,” says Abu Dawi, a friend of the victim.

Painfully, in the raw of the storm, they didn’t hear from him again.

“The most painful tragedy we had was the death of Rogino, who was an exceptional man in this community,” adds Abu.

Rogino is one of the two dead left by Iota. His wife only confirmed the bad feeling almost 12 hours later.

“We got there to the cemetery to bury him, everyone knew that he had died, they didn’t have sand to bury him, they had nothing,” Dana recalls indignantly.
