This drop is related to the drop in road accidents registered this year, which in turn is connected to the mobility restrictions imposed to contain the expansion of the coronavirus in the country.

Figures from the National Road Safety Observatory indicate that, as of November, there has been a reduction of 20.1% in the number of victims in road accidents.

This is good news per se, as it means that 1,195 people have not died on national roads, compared to the same period last year. And it is also because the decrease positively affects the SOAT rates that will govern by 2021.

According to information from the Financial Superintendency, the maximum rate for this compulsory insurance, for all categories, will drop 0.98%.

“The 2021 rate reflects the decrease in the accident rate derived from the mobility restrictions adopted by the authorities during the first half of 2020 and the gradual return to the 2019 accident rate,” the entity indicated through a published statement. this Monday.

According to the Superfinanciera, “the owners of a new family vehicle between 1,500 cc and 2,500 cc will have a SOAT rate of 8.77 SMDLV (legal minimum daily wages in force) for 2021, 0.98% less compared to the rate in force for 2020 which was 8.85 SMDLV ”.

It is worth mentioning that the value in pesos of this mandatory insurance for 2021 will be linked to the increase that is decreed in the minimum wage, which is expected to be made public by the Government this Tuesday.
