The 10th Criminal Court of the Barranquilla Circuit with knowledge functions issued this Tuesday conviction against the former rector of the Autonomous University of the Caribbean, Silvia Gette, for the case of self-loans of more than $ 1,000 million to the detriment of this alma mater.
The firm convicted Gette of the crime of abuse of trust aggravated in a homogeneous competition.
The amount of the sentence against the Argentine citizen, currently at home in jail, will be announced on October 14 at 9 in the morning.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, Between 2008 and 2012, Gette Ponce made self-loans worth $ 1,075 million, which it would eventually pay in installments of $ 3 million per month and without interest.
This money, the indictment reads, was used “to pay, among others, her tax and personal obligations, as well as the fees of the lawyer who represented her in a process ”.
Likewise, the former rector also invested university resources in paying taxes, such as income tax returns and the property of her apartments.
The university lawyer, Daniel Largacha, told this newspaper that “during the hearing, in the corresponding transfer, the defense requested that the sentence imposed be of a domiciliary nature and the Prosecutor’s Office, together with the victim, sthey requested to take into account the precedent for bribery reported directly to the court by the Supreme Court of Justice ”.
The representative of victims refers to the sentences against Gette Ponce for bribery in criminal proceedings, of 6 years, and for the case of the million dollars, of 9 years.
“We hope that this sentence, like the one issued for the million dollar case, allow the Specialized Directorate against Money Laundering progress in the process that, as a result of a verification of copies of the Supersociedades, which showed, at the request of this attorney, a carousel of contracts for $ 18 billion, reach a favorable conclusion and the money goes back to the university ”, indicated Largacha.
