Aristóteles Sandoval, former governor of the Mexican state of Jalisco, who was riding in an armored car and had 15 bodyguards assigned to him, was killed early Friday by the mafia.

According to Mexican authorities, Sandoval arrived on Thursday night at a restaurant located on Puerto Vallarta’s main avenue and, in the early morning, got up from the table where he was along with three other men and a woman, whose identities remain under reservation. .

According to witnesses and cameras, the former official went to the bathroom and was attacked from behind by a hitman.

The crime has caused astonishment because the former governor had 15 bodyguards and armored vehicles, according to Ricardo Sánchez, coordinator of the Jalisco Security Cabinet.

The authorities estimate that between eight and ten gunmen attacked Sandoval’s security team with bursts when they were transferring him, badly injured, to the Joya private hospital, where he was declared dead.

Sandoval ruled during the Peña Nieto administration (2012-2018), during which violence, linked to the mafia, soared in his state, where the Jalisco cartel sows terror.

In fact, Sandoval admitted at the time that he had not been able to consolidate a model to have a strong police force and that there was lack of coordination.
