The imputation of charges to Sergio Fajardo will be for the crimes of embezzlement for appropriation in favor of third parties and for contracts without compliance with requirements, due to a tender that he gave in 2013, when he was governor of Antioquia, said the Prosecutor’s Office, as read in this trill:

Fajardo made a contract for “debt substitution”, but the agreement was made —according to the Prosecutor’s Office— without studies, without projections of the volatility of the dollar and without shielding yourself with insurance.

“Said contract involved the disbursement of 77 million dollars to substitute debts with other banks. […] A study had not been carried out on the need to sign a loan contract in foreign currency, “added the accusing entity.

The price of the dollar at that time was 1,926 pesos; in 2015 it reached 3,140 pesos, so Antioquia’s debt went from 600,000 million pesos to more than one trillion pesos.

Fajardo, who has the idea of being president in 2022, will be the first accused in this case, but they would accuse more former officials who would be involved in the alleged irregularities.

This mess is added to the one that the former mayor of Medellín has, due to the alleged fiscal responsibility in the failure of Hidroituango.

Although the Prosecutor’s Office will not request an assurance measure for the former governor, this case It could affect his image in the face of the 2022 elections.
