Senator Rodrigo Lara announced yesterday his resignation, due to ideological differences, from the Radical Change Party, declared independent but close to the Government on some issues.

This was stated by the parliamentarian, son of the immolated Rodrigo Lara Bonilla, on the ‘W Radio’ station.

“It makes no sense to take on candidacies just because. I like politics with ideas, ”Lara warned after emphasizing that he does not plan to run for Congress in 2022 or for the Presidency either.

The legislator who made the decision to resign after speaking with the head of the community, former Vice President Germán Vargas Lleras, also said, adding that he will seek to consolidate a liberal social democratic project.

Other resignations that occurred in recent weeks were those of senators Roy Barreras and Armando Benedetti, from the U Party, declared as official.

In this regard, Benedetti told EL HERALDO that he resigned because “it is a party that is neither the opposition nor the government. It bothers me, for example, that I started, before Iván Marulanda, to talk about basic income and the party did not support me. With the Paef they asked $ 4 billion for 131 thousand companies, of which only 8 thousand are from the Caribbean, of the 1.7 million that exist in the country, and the speaker was David Barguil. With Lara I wanted the money to go to the smallest companies, but the Government and Congress gave $ 2 billion to only a thousand companies: it is vulgar for a Congress to do that ”.

As for whether he has spoken with Lara or Barreras to unite destinations, he assured: “I have not played cards there, I see the future with optimism and I do not rule out reaching there. I resign from the seat not because it is pretentious but because the Constitution allows it. And what I can say for now is that I want to run for Congress again. “

Around these movements, political analyst Carlos Arias told this newspaper that “they are based on the fact that today the new political realities are signaling that political polarization is all that the citizen rejects.”

And he adds that “many political leaders are looking for the center to collect that 40% of the electoral potential and it is very possible that they will generate a coalition in the short term for presidential, mayoral and governor’s offices, but it is very unlikely that strong movements that can fight will be consolidated. elections to Congress. The movements will be part of the new panorama but this will not contribute to the consolidation of a more participatory democracy but to an atomization of the ideological factions ”.
