Sena removes coordinator from his position and will investigate case of animal abuse

After the videos in which it was seen how men put sedated dogs in plastic bags became viral, at the headquarters of the Sena in Malambo, the director for Atlantic of the institution, Jacqueline Rojas, had to rejoin the position to take over front of the situation.

In dialogue with EL HERLADO, the official regretted the way in which the animals were treated and explained that it was an unfortunate decision by cleaning staff and tertiary services of the entity, and not properly employees of the Sena or public officials.

As a result, he reported, the Sena General Directorate “opened a disciplinary process and the investigation for the sanctions to be given”. Said decision included the termination of the cleaning company workers involved in the case, “So that they do not return to work at the Malambo headquarters.”

It was also determined “separation of coordination functions from the server who was in charge of the headquarters yesterday (Wednesday)”, as he is the person to whom the complainant attributes the authorization to sedate the canines and put them in plastic bags sealed with tape. He added that the official’s removal from the post was determined in order to “give transparency to the investigation.”

Jaqueline Rojas reiterated that the intention of the cleaning employees had been to “make the community safe because some animals had shown aggressive attitudes”, for which they considered “Distancing them from headquarters”, but in an inappropriate way.

“Today we understand that this is not the roadmap, the institution or the workers themselves have been able to request support from the Mayor’s Office or the Police (…) We have accompanied the control bodies for this investigation, ”said the official.

Likewise, he assured that after learning the facts, the Barranquilla Metropolitan Environmental Police had taken up the case and had witnessed the moment when the animals were taken to a field on the road to Caracolí. He explained that a video call was made in which they could corroborate that the dogs were alive.

He ended by saying that at the moment they are trying to find the canines again because the Mayor’s Office of Malambo expressed its intention to receive them and take care of them, and that the Seine now wants to carry out the transfer in the right way.
