The issue is more neuralgic if one takes into account that, after a recent ruling by the State Council, the controversial cadastral update carried out last year remained firm and that, on paper, it would raise the property tax charges to more than 70 thousand owners of houses, apartments and premises of the city.
Many of the councilors of Bucaramanga, among them Jaime Beltrán, a corporation of Colombia Justa Libres, described this new tax reform as inconvenient.
However, Rojas Téllez replied that the initiative, which is being carried out in the Cabildo, “has more advantages than disadvantages for the community.”
“The Municipality is going to make the payments of such contribution more flexible. The idea is that the property owners can respond with quotas throughout the year, without being charged interest for that,” he said.
He stressed again that, “there will be no increases in this tax for the owners of properties in strata 1, 2 and 3, with commercial value below $ 250 million.”
However, councilors insist on saying that with this new tax reform and the cadastral update, ratified by the State Council, the Property Tax in Bucaramanga could increase by 400% next year.
The official denied that version and added that “the largest number of taxpayers will have relief in their respective tax payments.”
