The veteran Spanish cyclist Scar Sevilla (Medelln) has been the winner of the fifth stage of the 60th edition of the Clsico RCN de Colombia, an individual time trial of 16.7 kilometers disputed this Thursday between the towns of Quimbaya and Filandia.
Sevilla stopped the clock at 31 minutes and 59 seconds, a record that none of their rivals were able to improve. Second, 5 seconds away, Colombian Fabio Andrs Duarte finished, while Jos Tito Hernndez was third at 18 seconds, completing the display of Team Medelln that took the top three places on the stage.
Colombian Rafael Pineda (UAE Colombia), who donned the leader’s jersey after finishing third in the fourth stage, ended up giving up the lead after finishing eighth in the clock, 1 minute and 12 seconds behind Seville. The precious garment passed into the hands of José Tito Hernández.
Thus, Hernndez leads the general table tied in time with his partner Sevilla and with 6 seconds of income over Didier Merchn (Colombia Tierra de Atletas).
“I am very happy to take the lead, of this good time trial that I have done,” said the new leader.
Sevilla, runners-up in the 2001 Vuelta a Espaa, valued this Thursday’s victory because “each victory has a special meaning” and said they support Hernndez in his quest for the title.
“The leader is Tito, we are going to support him. The idea is to win the race, there are no single leaders here, we are a team, and we are going to try to win the race,” said Sevilla.
The Classic RCN continue this Friday with the dispute of its sixth stage, of 123.5 kilometers between Parque de la Vida and Riosucio.
