They claim that he also bought curtains, six mattresses and a bed at exorbitant prices, all with official resources. To the controversy adds a BMW.
Adriana del Rosario Mendoza Agudelo took office as Colombian ambassador to the UN on October 18, 2018.
Before long he showed his fine taste.
The ambassador made several requests for a starting assignment for the provision of personal property for her residence.
In one of them, in October 2019, he asked the Foreign Ministry for money to buy a 500-euro clothes iron, almost 2 million pesos. In Colombia the most expensive can be worth about $ 300,000
Noticias Caracol set about finding that 500-euro plate in Europe, but the most expensive is 129, which is 500,000 pesos.
A year earlier, the ambassador sent the request to replace a bed, 4 box springs and 6 mattresses, which cost 11,000 Swiss francs and which at the current rate in pesos represent more than $ 44 million pesos.
That same month of 2018, Mendoza made a new request to buy two sofas of 12,350 Swiss francs, curtains for dining room and living room (3,735 Swiss francs) and upholstery for the dining room set (4,690 Swiss francs), which in Colombian pesos translates into just over 72 million pesos.
The ambassador, apparently, also bought a BMW car as if it were from the diplomatic service and thus saved on taxes.
The official has also invited her employees to lunch and one of those outings, to the Together restaurant in Geneva, cost her 175.50 Swiss francs ($ 800,000). It was not an official or diplomatic act, but a personal one, but for him he made use of representation expenses and not his salary, which, according to the Government, is 10,957, although it was not specified whether it was in dollars or euros.
And so there has been more than one unofficial lunch paid for with the diplomacy checkbook.
Chancellor Claudia Blum announced a preliminary investigation against the ambassador to the UN.
