Sara Sofía case: mother of the minor and her ex-boyfriend plead not guilty

The hearing against Carolina Galván, mother of Sara Sofía, the two-year-old minor reported missing in Bogotá continues. The woman and her ex-boyfriend, Nilson Diaz, were captured at dawn on Thursday, March 18, and this afternoon, the Prosecutor’s Office charged them with the crime of aggravated forced disappearance, a charge of which they pleaded not guilty.

Because she is a minor, the hearing was reserved. However, the Prosecutor’s Office reported that the capture was legalized and an accusation was made. Now, the guarantee control judge is expected to make a decision on the request for an assurance measure presented by the accusing entity.

Sara Sofía Galván, 23 months old, disappeared at the end of January. According to Xiomara Galván, the little girl’s aunt and who had custody, she allowed Carolina to take the little girl and spend a few days with the little girl. However, from that moment on, nothing has been known about the girl’s whereabouts.

Since then, the versions of Sara Sofía’s mother have changed. At first, he claimed that the girl had died, for which he had thrown her body into the Tunjuelito river. However, days later he modified his statement and said that he had given it to a woman, who offered to take care of her.

For his part, Nilson Diaz, in an interview with Blu Radio, assured that he did not believe that the minor had died. He suspected that Carolina Galván gave it away, having no way to keep it. The minor’s aunt, Xiomara Galván, who had temporary custody of the girl, told the station that she hopes her niece is alive.

Despite this, rescuers from the Special Emergency Operations Unit have carried out search work on the Tunjuelito River, trying to find the whereabouts of the little girl.
