The Colombian cyclist Salvador Moreno (Ebsa-Energa de Boyac) has won the fifth stage of the 70th edition of the Vuelta a Colombia, considered the queen stage, a day of mountainous profile and 122 kilometers disputed this Tuesday between the town of Ibagu and Alto de La Lnea, at 3,265 meters of altitude in the Central Cordillera of the Andes.
With a time of 3 hours, 31 minutes and 42 seconds, Moreno prevailed in the charismatic finish high ahead of Diego Andrs Camargo (Colombia Land of Athletes), second to 1 second, with which he reached the finish line outstanding.
After struggling for the 20 kilometers of the final ascent, Moreno beat Camargo, 22, who won the Vuelta la Juventud on November 1.
34 seconds behind the winner came Juan Pablo Surez (EPM-Scott), Daniel Osorio (Idea) and Alexander Gil (EPM-Scott).
Gil, who started the day with the leader’s jersey, could not retain the precious garment that went to Camargo after his excellent performance and his second place on the stage.
Camargo now commands the table and has 23 seconds ahead of Surez and 40 seconds over Gil himself.
The Spanish scar Sevilla (Medelln), sixth in the stage 48 seconds behind the winner, is now fifth, 55 seconds behind the leader’s jersey.
The Return to Colombia continue this Wednesday with the dispute of its sixth stage, of 145.4 kilometers between Armenia and El Tambo.
