The moment of truth has arrived for one of the most anticipated events in the city. It is the Cali Fair, which in its 63rd edition faces the challenge of the digital format to prioritize life and awaken emotions such as those that have been done in person.
This was a virtual fair start as a litmus test, faced with the challenge of leaving the biggest festivity in Cali on high. Just as there were ovations on social networks, there was also severe criticism for the large investment.
Under the concept of ‘Connected by life’ both Caleños and people who love this fair competition in different parts of the world, can enjoy a program that maintains the spirit of the main fair events.
The mayor of Cali, Jorge Iván Ospina, highlighted: “This cultural project is biosecure, with strict protocols, built here in our El Pueblo coliseum and has had the opportunity to link the face-to-face and the virtual.”

The president stressed that this is a historical event, after there was controversy two months before, because he ratified the holding of the Fair with an investment of close to 11,000 million pesos.
150 thousand dollars are costing international artists for the Fair. The priorities of this Administration are not understood. It’s stupid! We are not here to hire videos from outside artists when our cultural sector needs support right now. What incoherence!

There was criticism from some councilors, such as Diana Rojas and Roberto Ortiz, who considered that due to the effects of the pandemic on the economy, Cali is not for the Fair and less with a large investment in virtual activities.
However, Mayor Ospina maintained that the Fair seeks to give a boost to the cultural sector that has been one of the hardest hit, precisely, by those effects of the coronavirus pandemic and the five-month confinement that took place throughout the country.
“I want to tell you that what we will have at this Fair is unprecedented in the history of the fairs of the city of Cali, and unique in the projects of cultural value that the Republic of Colombia has. It has nothing to envy to cultural projects that are carried out in other spaces, “added the chief executive of the Caleños.
The Corfecali manager, Alexánder Zuluaga, said that the Fair is not an expense, it is a city brand.

On the night of this December 25, at 9:15 pm, the curtain of the Fair opened, with the Salsodromo with the participation of renowned dancers from the most important schools in the city.
The Cali Fair became an administrative whim. All that money, which for these days is scarce and precious to the city, wasted and thrown away by mere stubbornness. Nothing more dangerous to me than a stubborn with power. #FeriaDeCali

Experts noted that it was a night of great talent show in the best Broadway style in America.
One of the great surprises prepared by the Mayor’s Office of Cali and Corfecali was the presentation of the teacher Yuri Buenaventura.

Until last year, the Salsódromo was characterized as one of the great parades of the Fair, kicking off five days of festivities. This inaugural parade used to travel eight kilometers of the South Highway in the capital of Valle del Cauca.
“We started with a phenomenal Salsódromo, which emanates from the essence and depth of our neighborhoods and which, as is logical, from the salsa and all his glances, he will have our dancers present as the main value project at the Cali Fair ”, indicated Ospina.
The producer of the # salsodromo2020 since #FeriaDeCali is stealing. If the event is to see people dance, how do they think of putting a mapping on the floor that the only thing that achieves is to confuse and distract. Enough with the costumes. Badly planned 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️

The closing will be on Wednesday 30th with the concert ‘El Mundo sings to Cali and Cali sings to the world’.
The latter are concerts broadcast from New York, Cuba and Puerto Rico, as a tribute to Cali.
In the city there will be concerts from the tutelary hills, such as Tres Cruces.
Artists await resources
This year, according to the Corporación de Eventos, Ferias y Espectáculos de Cali (Corfecali), a body that organizes the Fair every December, pointed out that 70% of the 11,000 million pesos that the entire contest cost would be for payments of more than 1,200 Salsodromo dancers, other artists and all the artisans behind the scenes in this five-day celebration at the end of 2020.
Last year, the investment was 16,000 million pesos, of which the Mayor invested 10,000 million and the rest was borne by sponsors.
51 dance schools participated (before there were 31) in this 63 version of the Fair.
