Government sources confirmed that two Russian diplomats who were in the country were expelled from Colombia.
According to the information, these people were developing intelligence activities. The warning about the illegal actions they were taking came through the National Intelligence Directorate.
Official sources indicated that the foreigners were in a process of recruiting sources and had already advanced that process in the city of Cali.
They added that in addition to military intelligence, they conducted economic intelligence and were interested in learning insider information on the exploitation of mineral resources.
The sources indicated that the Russian diplomats left Colombia on a Bogota-Amsterdam-Moscow flight. One of them went out with the family and the other, alone.

They are Alexander Paristov, born on January 12, 1989, and Alexander Belousov, born on January 29, 1981. The men had been in the country for more than two years.
The director of Migration Colombia, Juan Francisco Espinosa, said that the diplomats left the country on December 8 and, given the circumstances in which they did, they will not be able to return in a short time.
“We work in a coordinated manner with the National Government. Whenever there are affectations or potential affectations to the security of the country, we will proceed accordingly,” said the official.
For similar cases of espionage, the Colombian authorities have already expelled Venezuelan citizens and a Cuban at other times.

For example, in June of this year, Migración Colombia expelled from the country the second sergeant of the Venezuelan Army Gerardo José Rojas Castillo, whom the Colombian authorities pointed out to be an active Venezuelan military officer who, presumably, had the purpose of establishing security schemes and movements of the Artillery Battalion No. 2 La Popa, located in Valledupar, Cesar.
In March 2019, Cuban José Manuel Peña García was expelled, accused of espionage at the Palenquero air base, a strategic installation of the Military Forces in Puerto Salgar, Cundinamarca.
Peña García was told of having ties with the Cuban Army and that he was supposedly following information and itineraries for the Kfir planes from Colombia.
