Roy Barreras and Armando Benedetti were expelled from the U Party

According to two documents issued by the U Party, revealed this Friday by W Radio, the political community decided to expel senators Roy Barreras and Armando Benedetti from the party for committing what the party considered serious offenses, information contrary to the statements of both senators, who, on October 15, announced their resignation from the political party.

The document revealed by W Radio indicates that, On October 15, the U Party notified Senator Roy Barreras of the “loss of militant status” of that political group. According to the letter, Senator Barreras would have incurred “Very serious offenses of violation of the banking regime by not act on the bench, in accordance with the Law ”, in addition to“Make public comments that damage the image of the Party or Party members.”

The community assured, in the document, that they managed to verify that Barreras committed both offenses, which is why they decided to expel him that same day, given that Roy Barreras deviated from the decision of his party to support Margarita Cabello as the Attorney General and “to present before the parliamentary bench the debate on political control against the Minister of Defense, also taking into account that the party is part of the government coalition of President Iván Duque ”.

The same happened with Senator Armando Benedetti. In the document with which he was notified of his expulsion, the party argued that “the violation of the bench regime was proven due to the breach of different duties,” taking into account that the senator “Not only did he not accept the decisions of the bench, but he also cast a vote contrary to what was defined by the bench of senators.”

According to the community, Senator Benedetti violated the “regime of Law 974 of 2005 and the Party Statutes, for failing to comply with the duties involved in acting on the bench.”

Some analysts assured that, contrary to what many think, That Barreras and Benedetti were expelled from their party does not harm them, on the contrary, they may benefit from this decision, since, upon being ousted, senators can create a new political movement or join an existing one.

Something that, apparently, is considering Senator Benedetti, who, this Thursday, surprised with a video in which he announced that he is “walking” towards the Human Colombia of Gustavo Petro.

“The center does not exist in any political theory, what happens is that in Colombia people feel sorry to say if it is from the right or from the left”, said Benedetti For his part, Senator Gustavo Petro, just wrote on his Twitter account: “Welcome Benedetti.”

On the other hand, other experts assure that with the expulsion of the senators, both are saved from an accusation of double membership, which would be much more damaging to continue their political life. Instead, With the expulsion, they can once again aspire to be congressmen of the Congress of the Republic with another community in the next elections.

The W Radio station also reported that Dilian Francisca Toro, president of the party, confirmed that she had not been informed of these expulsions. For their part, the senators have yet to comment on the information revealed.

THE ALLEGED WAIVERS

Barreras and Benedetti have been critical of the National Government, regardless of the fact that their own party, with which they managed to reach the Congress of the Republic, declares itself a friend of the current president.
