The President of the Republic, Iván Duque, confirmed through his Twitter account the death of former Minister of Finance Roberto Junguito, one of the most prominent economists in the country.

After studying economics at the Universidad de los Andes, Junguito Bonnet, born on March 5, 1943 in the country’s capital, obtained his doctorate in this discipline at Princeton University (USA), and completed his studies with courses at the London School of Economics and the University of Brussels.
It was twice Minister of Finance. The first time, in 1984, during the government of Belisario Betancur and the second, in 2002, under the presidency of Álvaro Uribe Vélez. These were, however, only two of the high dignities that he held throughout his distinguished professional life.
Among them are the representation of Colombia before the International Monetary Fund and the co-director of the Bank of the Republic; He was also Minister of Agriculture, director of Fedesarrollo, executive president of Fasecolda, president of the Association of Coffee Exporters and Colombian ambassador to France and the European Community.
Mauricio Cárdenas Santamaría, former Minister of Finance, He also regretted the news of Junguito, whom he referred to as a great Colombian who contributed a lot to the country: “He always stood out as a serious, pragmatic person, who sought above all the well-being of our society, the well-being of Colombia, the decisions correct; he was a person who united and reached consensus; who tried to avoid divisions and friction and helped generate support for decisions to be made, which were often difficult and complex; he helped the country understand them “.
Cárdenas Santamaría also highlighted the fact that he has left a great legacy through his books, in which his experiences and reflections on the economic history of Colombia are recorded, “and which will surely be a must-read for many generations, to understand our past”.
In his last post in Briefcase, The newspaper for which he was a columnist, Junguito referred to the IMF’s revisions to world economic projections in his World Economic Outlook report.
