During 10 hours, vandals burned more than 15 CAI of the Police, attacked uniformed soldiers, incinerated several Transmilenio buses, looted supermarkets, neighborhood stores and banks. Everything was chaos and confusion. There are also serious reports of abuse by officers.
El Ojo de la Noche by Noticias Caracol witnessed how dozens of young people set fire to a car that was traveling along Boyacá Avenue with May Day.
While they watched the vehicle burn, they took the tubes and sticks that were found to destroy the glass and doors of a CAI. The cops had no choice but to go.
The same situation was experienced in the CAI of Techo, Oneida, Tintal and Roma. In Suba, not even the police uniforms, than they ended up hanging at traffic lights.
The flames destroyed the CAI of La Gaitana, Fontanar and Rincón. The criminals burned the cars of the agents, police motorcycles and a bus of the mass transport system.
Communications radios, a CAI Rincón firearm and various official clothing were stolen. They looted several ATMs and neighborhood stores.
In Bosa, more than 10 Transmilenio buses were left in ashes. The criminals lowered the drivers and passengers to finish off the vehicles.
In other areas such as Usme and Engativá, the vandals also attacked the CAI. Seven people died in these events and dozens of civilians and police were injured. The damage is still incalculable after a night to forget in the capital of the Republic.
The riots broke out amid protests a day after the death of Javier Ordóñez, registered after a violent police procedure.
