Atlético Nacional drew 1-1 with Águilas Doradas, for the eleventh date in League I-2021. The Antioquia duel was even and although the purslane took the lead on the scoreboard at the minute of play through Tomás Ángel, the golden team managed to balance the game through a goal from Christian Marrugo through a penalty sanctioned by Wilmar Roldán with help of the VAR.
As soon as the game started, at 39 seconds, Tomás Ángel put Atlético Nacional ahead on the scoreboard, after a counterattack by the visiting team and after a pass from the right side by Jefferson Duque. The son of Juan Pablo, he scored his first professional goal in his second game as a starter and his fourth officially.
At minute 12, Vladimir Hernández from middle distance, almost increased the lead on the scoreboard, but the ball hit the right vertical of goalkeeper Carlos Bejarano.
After the goal, Águilas tried to compose himself, with control of the ball and long game, but Nacional was orderly in his area and there was not much danger for goalkeeper Aldair Quintana. Those from eastern Antioquia attacked on the wing, but were exposed in defense.
At minute 18 after a counterattack, Jefferson Duque finished off the ball on the edge of the area and with his right leg sent the ball to the left vertical, saving the gold team from the second.
As the minutes passed, the Águilas team was tilting the court in their favor and Nacional, from being dominating in the first section of the game, became subdued in their field, the purslane had lost order, especially on the left sector guarded by Juan David Cabal. In 41 minutes, those from the east generated two clear chances to get the tie. However, Nacional went to rest with the minimum advantage on the scoreboard.
In the complementary stage, the visit started better and in five minutes, he had a couple of options to go ahead on the scoreboard. Águilas recovered the ball, but did not find the same fluidity with which he ended in the first half.
At minute 19, the ball hit Juan David Cabal in the left arm, a move that led to the VAR review for referee Wilmar Roldán. After watching the video, the referee from Antioquia sanctioned the penalty and at minute 21, Christian Marrugo transformed the foul into a tie for the golden team.
After the goal, Nacional made two changes; Jarlan Barrera and Jonatan Álvez entered for Alex Castro and Michael Chacón, respectively, changing modules from 3-2-3-2 to 4-1-3-2. About 30 minutes, Christian Marrugo almost scored the second for the local, after a violent shot near goalkeeper Quintana’s right side.
At minute 36 and after a recovery by Sebastián Gómez, from middle distance Jonatan Álvez, sent the ball with his right leg to the horizontal, being the third shot in the sticks that Atlético Nacional launched in the game.
In the end, Nacional went from highest to lowest, he could not maintain the advantage he had achieved from the first minute of play and ended up asking for time against a team from eastern Antioquia that generated many options and achieved equality through a charge from the penalty spot.
On the next date, Águilas Doradas receives Independiente Medellín on Sunday, March 14 in Rionegro, while Atlético Nacional receives on Sunday March 14 at Atanasio Junior de Barranquilla.
