Juan Sebastián Abad, mayor of La Estrella, rejected this act of animal cruelty and stated that, personally, he will file a complaint.
“I want people to understand that every time there is animal abuse we are going to report it and we will report the people who do it,” he said.
After the complaint, the Environmental Police traveled to the area and identified the alleged perpetrators.

From the Metropolitan Area of Valle de Aburrá, this type of act was rejected and citizens were invited to care for and respect the lives of all animals.
This has not been the only case of mistreatment and cruelty against these marsupials. This week, in Marinilla, a possum lost her young and her left eye after being attacked with stones. The authorities have already identified the alleged perpetrator.
“This shows the lack of environmental awareness of citizens, that is why we make this call for attention. They are sentient beings and no situation, no matter how difficult or discomfort it generates, justifies an act of vandalism like this one, ”said Juan David Palacio, director of the Metropolitan Area.

Likewise, Palacio assured that they will accompany the municipality of La Estrella for the formulation of the complaint and that they will be attentive to the Prosecutor’s Office so that the crimes to which they have occurred can be imputed.
This year 1,723 individuals of opossums have entered the Center for Attention and Assessment of Wild Fauna, CAV, which, in most cases, come from various situations of abuse. This figure represents 27.4% of the total number of animals that are cared for every day by the Wildlife Team of the Metropolitan Area and the CES University.
