In the company Times Higher Education (THE) published its annual ‘ranking’ of the best universities in the world, one of the most important internationally. On this occasion, a total of nine Colombian institutions are part of the prestigious list.

This ‘ranking’ measures the performance of universities through the analysis of five academic aspects: teaching, research, citations, international projection (foreign students and teachers, as well as alliances abroad) and income from the industry (the commercial impact of research from an institution).

A total of 1,527 institutions ranked, 9 percent above the previous year, in which only 1,397 were evaluated.

On this occasion, the fact that Chinese universities present their best performance in history, sneaking an institution into the top 20 for the first time (Tsinghua University).

Despite this, the dominance of American and British educational establishments continues, which make up the first ten places in the ranking.

In this way, and for the fifth consecutive year, the University of Oxford was awarded first place on the list with an overall score of 95.6 out of 100 possible. It is closely followed by Stanford and Harvard universities.

The best universities in Colombia

For its part, Colombia is present with a total of nine institutions and it is striking that there were important changes with respect to the THE ranking of Latin America, also released this year.

In this way, Javeriana university move to University of the Andes at the top of the table, being also the only two that is located within the 1,000 best in the world.

It also highlights that this It is the first time that the National University has dropped several positions and does not appear in the top three in the country, contrary to the regional list of a few months ago, in which it remained in second place
