A downpour of more than 15 hours has caused several emergencies in different parts of the metropolitan area of Bucaramanga. Although at the moment no victims are reported, the rains have caused problems in mobility and the fall of trees.
At this time, the traffic between Floridablanca and Bucaramanga is dammed on the Provenza bridge due to the fact that enough water has accumulated in that sector, which prevents normal mobility.
In the same way, Firefighters units had to attend an emergency in Carrera 36 with Calle 42, where a tree fell on a vehicle that was parked in the place. Fortunately no one was injured.
Likewise, the Fire Department cut a tree that fell on a road in the Girardot neighborhood; It was also necessary to remove a tree that fell on the asphalt in the Campohermoso neighborhood; along Calle 56, with Carrera 33, some branches had to be removed.
For its part, Aeropuertos del Oriente reported that the Palonegro de Lebrija airport, which serves Bucaramanga, currently has restricted operation due to the mist that rests over the capital of Santander and prevents the visibility of the aircraft.
They also report reduced mobility on the Bucaramanga – Girón road and on the Floridablanca Piedecuesta road.
The Disaster Risk Management Unit in Santander reported that throughout the weekend there has been monitoring of rivers and streams in the department in order to prevent any event that affects people’s lives.
“At this time, any downpour will generate an emergency for us due to sudden floods, torrential floods, overflows, because the river basins are already saturated,” the Santander Dgrd said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the Bucaramanga Fire Department called on the public to become aware of the actions to take during the rainy season: carry umbrellas, go out warm, drive with caution and be attentive to calls from the authorities.
According to the Ideam forecast, it is estimated that during this Tuesday the rains will intensify and there may even be electrical storms. Likewise, throughout the week humid weather is forecast throughout the department.
