Javier Ordóñez’s body has already been handed over to his family, according to Angélica Garzón, Ordóñez’s ex-wife. In addition, he said that when he saw Ordóñez’s body, he observed that he had “multiple blows” to the head and body.
“I received Javier’s body,” Garzón told CNN. “The lawyer already has more detailed information. In fact, this morning he half expressed himself in part of what happened to Javier, where, well, he clearly had multiple blows, it was evident, “he explained.
“There is a preliminary report, which Legal Medicine has not given us as family members. The Prosecutor’s Office already has it and, obviously, they already gave information about what happened to Javier, ”he added.
CNN is trying to contact Forensic Medicine to see if there is an autopsy report. CNN also sought a reaction from the National Police and was told that they would not make further statements.
On the other hand, Garzón referred to the police officers involved. “They should already have an arrest warrant,” he said. “They killed him, the goal was to kill him and in the end they succeeded.”
Javier Ordóñez died between Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning in Bogotá after an episode of possible police brutality. In a video that has circulated on social networks, two agents of the National Police are seen bending him to the ground using electro-shock guns several times and hitting him at least once while he was heard begging “please.” In the same video, the officers are heard asking him to put his “hands back.”
The officers in the video have not been identified and are being investigated. Several authorities in the country, including the police themselves, have condemned the incident.
The event sparked protests in various parts of the country. At least 13 people have died as of this Friday in clashes with the Colombian authorities, the majority in the capital.
